 AVAST: ASSISTANCE FOR VICTIMS AND PEOPLE AFFECTED BY TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS
AVAST has been established as an ambit for guidance and help, both psychological and legal for victims and people affected by traffic accidents. In the Catalan population, each year the number of injured increases by 1%, and the number of people affected (directly or indirectly) by mortal accidents increases by 0.5%.
The objectives of the AVAST program are to inform, guide and support people affected by a traffic accident. It gives adequate attention to different individual needs, with the objective of overcoming the potential consequences that may affect the personal situation of each individual.
What you can find?
Psychological and Legal counseling backed by a team of professionals: psychologists, psychiatrists, lawyers.
Legal Counseling: : After the accident a number of legal issues are raised which are of great consequence. In AVAST you will receive guidance on procedures, deadlines and legal procedures that assist victims and their families. Also on the rights of victims and how to exercise these rights in the Courts of Justice, by the claiming of criminal and civil liability in compensation for pain and suffering.
Technical advice: Technical reconstruction of the accident, with the available data, using software, PC-crash; process to follow, etc.
Information resources: At the request of the affected person, AVAST can give guidance on the possibilities of social assistance, health care for victims, and so on, which are offered by different administrations.
Psychological counseling: The counseling focuses on the manifested symptomatology of each affected person. It is specially oriented to those situations which have resulted in the loss of a loved one and the development of the always difficult process related to a state of mourning. Attention may be individual or through participation in groups of "mourning".
Mutual Aid Groups (GAM): whose purpose is to share ideas, feelings and experiences among affected people. Sharing resources and information and provide new ways of approaching the difficulties.
Humanistic support: the actividades of support and assistance of AVAST can be completed with the "Meeting Point" activity, the last Friday of each month (for the time being held in Barcelona). Here you can contact with other victims and affected people who are seeking mutual support.
NOTE: AVAST also offers help to those who have caused injuries and deaths to fellow citizens.

Traffic accidents are an everyday reality that affect thousands of people each year and the Victims need help and information. For over 40 years, P (A) T-AP (A) T has been helping to solve the problems arising from traffic accidents.
To improve on carrying out this task, the AVAST office was opened.
